Valencia Are, 2021 Summer Associate
Valencia is a rising 2L at Howard University School of Law.
Valencia is a rising 2L at Howard University School of Law. Her love for the law blossomed during her undergraduate career at The Pennsylvania State University and continued to flourish during an internship with a local firm in her hometown of Houston, Texas. These events led her to “The Mecca” in 2020.
Valencia’s legal interests include human and civil rights work, especially as they intersect with environmental law. During her 1L year she served as the 1L Representative for the Black Law Student Association and will be serving as their Secretary for the 2021-2022 school year.
She is excited to partner with the TMCRC as a Summer Associate to contribute to its efforts to advance human and civil rights causes, through advocacy and scholarship, both domestically and internationally.
Some of Valencia’s interests, outside of the law, includes painting and participating in art shows. Her artwork is geared toward reshaping the narrative that surrounds Black people in art and shifts it away from the struggle, strife, and slavery lens that they are often viewed through.
Valencia plans to dedicate herself to a career of advocacy, fighting for the rights of the marginalized, disenfranchised, and oppressed.
