United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent
The UN Permanent Forum will fight for the human rights of Black people throughout the diaspora.
In September 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These SDGs provide a benchmark to determine whether a community has achieved human rights for its citizens. In 2022, students from the Movement Lawyering Clinic at Howard University School of Law adopted this framework to conduct research that acknowledged Black America in the discussion of SDGs.
In a presentation at the First Session of the UN Permanent Forum for People of African Descent, students presented their findings on 13 cities. The Black Audit Project will tour the diaspora, conducting. We will grade each city on how well they are helping its Black citizens achieve their fundamental human rights using the SDGs as a measuring stick.
