Letter to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

In Spring of 2021, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights announced a call for inputs on the “promotion and protection of the human rights and fundamental freedoms of Africans and of people of African descent against excessive use of force and other human rights violations by law enforcement officers.” 

In response, the Thurgood Marshall Civil Rights Center, on behalf of the Michael O.D. Brown We Love Our Sons & Daughters Foundation, submitted a letter focusing on the mental health impact of police violence on Black communities and structural racism in the United States.

In June 2021, the 47th session of the Human Rights Council is scheduled to take place. This work is part of the ongoing efforts at the Thurgood Marshall Civil Rights Center to advocate against police violence and for racial justice from a human rights framework.
