Brittany Finley

Brittany is originally from Dallas, Texas and received her undergraduate degree from The University of Texas. Her passion for advocacy and social justice led her to Howard Law in 2019 where she is currently a rising 3L. During the summer of 2020, she worked for the Thurgood Marshall Civil Rights Center and focused on advocating for the rights of incarcerated individual throughout jails and prisons and policing reform. Afterward, she worked as a Student Attorney for Howard’s Human and Civil Rights Clinic where she assisted with drafting amicus briefs advocating for various civil rights matters, including an amicus brief in support of certiorari in the United States Supreme Court.

Following her time with the Civil Rights Clinic, Brittany interned with the ACLU of Texas where she gained additional experience in civil rights advocacy in her home state. While working for the ACLU, she analyzed dozens of documents in response to public information requests about county jails’ responses to COVID-19 and brainstormed ways for the ACLU to acquire information that had been withheld and to develop advocacy strategies using the information she analyzed. Among other assignments, she completed several rigorous research and writing projects, engaged client meetings, and submitting comments in relation to a request or a ruling on a Public Information Act Request to the Texas Attorney General. Her work primarily focused on protecting the rights of protesters and advocating for incarcerated individuals throughout Texas county jails.

In her free time, Brittany has volunteered her time to several causes such as assisting lawyers in Atlanta with their pro bono representation of Black Lives Matter protesters facing criminal charges during the Summer of 2020, as well as assisting the underprivileged in need of legal assistance and protection of their workers’ rights through volunteering with the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs Workers’ Rights Clinic.
